A dream of mine which has been months in the making has finally become a reality. When I saw a beaded Kenyan dog collar for the first time I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. By that I mean I couldn’t.
The dog wearing this amazing collar walked into the room, immediately drawing my attention to the colourful beads. It shocked me, because it was unlike anything I have ever seen. I couldn’t let her go before asking her a few questions about her dogs collar. Ever since then, this collar has not left my subconscious.
For the last year I have been looking here and there for a manufacturer in Kenya from whom I could import these collars. After searching all over and exploring how each manufacturer runs his or her business, I found one! I am now working with a woman who has started her own business making, among other things, absolutely gorgeous collars and leashes.
Her project not only makes our dogs look great and gives us a very durable product to last a lifetime (lifetime guarantee is offered), but it supports over 80 families. Many people in Kenya are having trouble finding regular work at the moment. These collars and leashes give the artists a chance to find their families and send their children to school.
